Thinking allowed

About four times a year we hire Costa on GWP for an evening to discuss a hot issue. This is for everyone, including those who wouldn’t normally go to church. The doors open at 7pm, so you have time to order drinks. Then at 7:30 we get together for a short talk on the issue of the evening, then discuss this in smaller groups, before coming together again for a final discussion.

Our next ‘Thinking Allowed’ event will be early in 2025. More details to follow.

In October 2024, Jim Sayers spoke on the theme ‘Can we really trust the Bible. You can download the MP3 recording here.

In April 2024 we welcomed David Shaw from Woodstock Road Church in Oxford, to speak about ‘Things can only get better? The myth of progress and where to find true hope.’ You can download the MP3 recording here.

In January 2024 Jim Sayers spoke upon the theme ‘Why does Justice Matter?’ This was in the light of the Post Office scandal, and was trying to answer the following questions: why are we so outraged by injustice, and what are we to make of the public’s reaction to this scandal? In an age of relative values, why does justice still matter to us? How do we break the cycle of injustice and oppression without becoming the oppressors ourselves? Join us and bring your questions. You can download the MP3 recording here.

In June 2023 we welcomed Brad Franklin who told his story of coming to terms with the sudden death of his wife. You can download the MP3 recording here.

In September 2023 Jim Sayers covered the issue of depression and mental health, telling his own story and exploring a Christian response. The talk was not recorded, but you can download a PDF of his notes here.
